Zac Unger
District One City Council Candidate
Zac Unger has been a firefighter and paramedic with the Oakland Fire Department since 1998, and the head of the fire fighters union since 1998. He is also the head of the fire fighters union. He is a strong advocate for public safety and includes fire safety in that description. He opposes closing fire stations in a city that must have a robust fire department to address challenges presented by natural disasters. In addition, he has spoken to the immediate need to fix Oakland’s broken 911 system. One of significant policy initiatives will be to focus on community policing.
Oakland’s budget crisis could very well result in a substantial reduction of our police force, our fire department, and emergency medical assistance programs. Zac has publicly stated his support for protecting these institutions by growing Oakland’s business sector so that revenues will be available to meet our needs.
We believe Zac will be a pragmatic, results oriented member of the City Council. For those reasons he has our support.
